Excursion

During our program, we have three excursion plans -- 2 half-day plans on 9 August and 1 one-day plan on 12 August.

(1) Excursion 1 (Wednesday afternoon, 9 August)

(1-1) Kawagoe Tour (4 hours) JPY 3,000
Kawagoe, located in the north of Tokyo, developed as a castle town of the Kawagoe clan during Edo Period. You will see merchant houses, which carry the feeling of Edo, the Western modernization with the romantic aroma of Taisho, the elegance remaining in the downtown Showa alleys, and the new Kawagoe lined with department stores and station buildings. Taking a walk through Kawagoe let you explore Japan from various time periods.  It is only 30 minutes from central Tokyo by train. You'll be able to see the traditional and authentic side of Japan in Kawagoe which can't be seen in Tokyo. More details can be found on http://www.koedo.or.jp/foreign/english/

(1-2) Mitake Tour (4 hours) JPY 2,600
Mitake is located in Ome city in the west of Tokyo. Surrounded by the rich nature, you will experience the mountainside of the western part of Tokyo -- you will also enjoy afternoon walk along the Tama River, visiting some local museums as well as Ozawa sake brewery (Sake-rice wine) and Tofu Restaurant. (2) Excursion 2 (Saturday, 12 August)

(2-1) Tokyo (Imperial Palace, Asakusa and Ueno) Tour (8hours) JPY 3,700
Tachikawa is, according to the local Tokyo resident, not really Tokyo. Once you spend your time in Tachikawa, you should think of making a day trip to the downtown area of Tokyo. This excursion will start at Imperial Palace where you will see the traditional Japanese gardening, Edo palace as well as unique housing styles and architecture. You will visit the oldest Japanese temple, Sensoji in Asakusa where you can find another Japanese culture. In Ueno, you can spend your time at a number of museums with unique collections.
