Aims & Scope

As an international research hub of Japanese Language and Linguistics, NINJAL is happy to attract and hold the international conferences having overseas bases. The International Conference on Practical Linguistics of Japanese (ICPLJ) based in the United States will be held in NINJAL this time.

Founded in 1998, the International Conference on Practical Linguistics of Japanese (ICPLJ) aims to stimulate research in Japanese linguistics and serve as a bridge between research oriented toward theory and research oriented toward practical application. Its scope covers a wide range of areas including linguistics – phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, lexicon, pragmatics, discourse analysis, applied linguistics, corpus linguistics, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, second language acquisition, bilingualism, Japanese language education/instruction, Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) technology, and language production, etc.. The theme of the 10th ICPLJ is “Improving Japanese-Language Teaching through Studies in Analyzing the Communication of Japanese Language Learners or Applied Linguistics.” The theme of the conference will also be inclusive of a broad spectrum of papers and panels. It will bring together researchers on the cutting edge of Japanese linguistics and to offer a forum in which their research results can be presented in a form that is useful to those desiring practical applications in the fields of teaching Japanese as a second/foreign language.
